A Huge Blessing

We've been slowly collecting doctor-and-hospital bills like a hoarder collects cheap glass figurines. It turns out that renal failure, pancreatitis, a bad gall bladder, and a ridiulously high white blood cell count can add up fast in terms of treatment, tests, and medicines, not to mention the seemingly endless parade of doctors, surgeons, gastroenterologists, kidney specialists, ER doctors, random I've-never-seen-you-before-and-I'm-not-sure-who-you-are Doctors, the tri-daily blood tests, the four (or was it five?) antibiotics I was on - not to mention all the other things like morphine, pepcid, maalox, and who-knows-what-else, the X-rays, the MRIs, the CT scans, the unit of blood I was given - and the list could go on - it's worth a pretty penny.

We're actually still waiting on a few of the bills from a few of the major doctors to come in.

Well the hospital went ahead and sent me an application for financial aid about a week and a half ago since they had in their records I didn't have any insurance. That got filled out and mailed faster than our 1040.
They sent back a list of documents they needed to check our qualification for help with the bill.
I spent most of yesterday and part of this morning on the phone trying to pull together all the necessary paperwork...(note to self: keep track of paycheck stubs better. Just do it.)
Today I went in to meet with Phyllis, an aged lady who reminded me of my Great-Aunt Ada somehow.
Our meeting took 5 minutes.

She asked for one document.
I handed it to her.
She went to make copies.
She came back.
She informs me:
"we will write off this entire bill. You won't be asked to pay anything. You will receive a letter from us in about a week verifying this and then you should contact the other doctors and the ER to let them know we dismissed it. A lot of them will most likely do the same."

Total bill we had dismissed today: 63,817.00

Needless to say, I cried all the way home.
You would have, too, admit it.

That is more than we paid for our house - quite a bit more.

God is faithful....that's all I can say.

Rats. I guess that means I have to cancel my bill, too.
